Perth, June 24, 2025 — In a landmark visit marking both new beginnings and long-standing ties, Kenyan High Commissioner to Australia, Dr. Wilson Kogo, was formally welcomed to Western Australia by Governor Chris Dawson at Government House.
This visit marks Dr. Kogo’s first official engagement in WA — a timely moment as 2025 commemorates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Australia.
Joining him were key members of his delegation, including Ms. Dolphine Ndeda, Minister Counsellor; Mrs. Flora Mulatya, Education Attaché; as well as Kenyan-Australian business leaders Mr. Dennis Langat (Swell Service) and Mr. Newton Ndege (GNG Global Investment Group).
Governor Dawson reaffirmed WA’s appreciation for its growing friendship with Kenya, emphasizing the importance of strengthening people-to-people and economic ties. Education remains a key link — Kenyans now rank among the top ten international student communities in the state, with nearly 2,700 Kenyan students currently enrolled across Perth.
Dr. Kogo highlighted Kenya’s eagerness to deepen collaboration with Western Australia in areas such as education and training, agriculture, energy, and research. He also voiced support for the potential introduction of direct flights between Perth and Nairobi, a move he believes could significantly enhance bilateral cooperation and mobility.
His visit comes ahead of the Africa Down Under Conference, set to return to Perth this September. Initially created to spotlight Australia’s engagement in African mining and energy sectors, the forum has grown into the leading platform for Australian-African business and government relations outside the continent.
For the Kenyan community in Australia, Dr. Kogo’s presence signifies more than diplomatic formality — it reflects a strengthening partnership and growing recognition of the Kenyan diaspora’s contribution to the social, academic, and economic fabric of Australia.
