MELBOURNE, VIC —
This year marks a significant milestone for Kenya Community Victoria (KCV), as the organisation celebrates 10 years since its founding on October 19, 2015. What began as a grassroots initiative has grown into one of the most active and enduring community bodies for Kenyans in Australia.
KCV has spent the last decade building connections across various sectors, deepening its engagement with:

Federal, state, and local governments,

Institutions such as the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health Unit and Consumer Affairs Victoria,

Tertiary institutions, and
-
A wide network of African diaspora organisations.
In that time, KCV has hosted forums, festivals, networking sessions, youth programs, and social support initiatives—largely without external funding. The organisation has been almost entirely self-funded, relying on community contributions and volunteer-led programming.
Despite the occasional support from small grants (with the last recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and typically under $1,000), KCV has managed to maintain a full calendar of events, publishing transparent financial reports annually at its AGM.
“This has been a decade of value-building,” said a spokesperson from the organisation. “The strength of our community lies in its willingness to invest in itself, even when resources are limited.”
As the Kenyan diaspora in Victoria continues to grow, KCV’s 10-year anniversary not only serves as a celebration but as a reminder of what is possible through collective effort and resilience.
