Dementia Awareness Webinar: Empowering the Kenyan Community in Australia

Kenya Community Victoria (KCV) is delighted to invite the Kenyan community in Australia to the second session of its Health Literacy Forum, a new initiative created to inform, connect, and empower our diaspora on important matters of healthy living. This upcoming session, taking place on Thursday 25th September 2025 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM AEST on Zoom, will focus on a topic that touches many families both directly and indirectly—dementia awareness.

The forum will be led by Muthoni Gitau, a Dementia Behaviour Practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in the health sector. With her deep expertise and lived understanding of the challenges surrounding dementia, Muthoni brings a rare opportunity for our community to learn directly from one of our own. Her goal is to break the stigma often associated with dementia, open up a safe space for conversation, and provide practical tools that families can use to better support loved ones.

For Kenyans in Australia, the pressures of life in the diaspora often leave little room to address health concerns, even when they affect us profoundly. Dementia is a growing condition worldwide, and many in our community either live with it or care for relatives who do. This webinar is therefore more than just an information session—it is a chance to come together as a community, to ask questions, to share experiences, and to leave better informed and more confident in how to handle this challenge.

The KCV Health Literacy Forum was created as a platform where Kenyans across Australia can build stronger knowledge and awareness around health, while also connecting with professionals who understand both the medical and cultural context of our community. By attending, participants will not only gain expert knowledge but also be part of a supportive network that values collective well-being.
